My motivation for writing this book was to help clarify exactly what Joseph Pilates’ Matwork is. There is so much on the market now but it has often been diluted in order to be commercial. I wanted to do my best to present his work which has kept me going through injury, failure, surgery and depression. I have broken the exercises down into three levels so you can slowly gather the flexibility and strength needed to perform the original material.

I had resisted the opportunities to publish a book for many years as you should learn from a teacher who can check you. However, Body Control needed a book of what I like to call ‘the real Macoy’ – ‘ the classical mat’, and so many other people have now written books I thought I might as well do my best to present a good guide for the general public.
